Applied Linguistics Circle Meetup

来る7月16日 (土曜日)、応用言語学および関連領域に関心のある方を対象とし、研究発表等を通じた知識交流・懇親を目的とした “Applied Linguistics Circle Meetup” という対面イベントを早稲田大学にて開催する運びとなりましたので、お知らせいたします。

現在、6月25日 (土) を目処に、発表希望者を募集しています。詳細は以下概要をご覧ください。

We are pleased to announce an informal in-person meetup on applied linguistics and related fields. This event, which we call “Applied Linguistics Circle Meetup,” will be held on Saturday, July 16th at Waseda University, Tokyo.

We are currently seeking eager individuals who wish to present at our event (Please find more information as you read through the descriptions below).

背景・目的

COVID-19により2020年冬期以降、大学院生(および研究者)同士が対面での知識交流や懇親をする場が失われてしまいました。特に目的意識や研究テーマを共有する者同士の所属研究室や大学等を超えた交流の機会が非常に限定的となってしまったことから、このような機会を設けることで応用言語学とその関連領域を専門とする大学院生や研究者同士の知識交流や懇親の促進を図ることを目的としています。

本会は応用言語学という幅広い共通テーマのもと、知識交流・懇親を通じた「ゆるいコミュニティ作り」を目指しています。

参加者ひとりひとりが、お互い (と各自の知的伝統・視点・立場・研究内容)を尊重しながら、それぞれの立場や観点から自由に、かつ安心して、意見交換や議論を行うことができるような場を作り上げたいと考えています。

  • 大学学部生（修士・博士課程に興味のある学部生も大歓迎）
  • 研究者、教員、その他応用言語学・外国語教育学関係の研究に関心がある方
  • ※応用言語学・外国語教育学系であれば、ご所属はなどは問いません。国内外、ぜひつながりましょう！

参加形式

本ミーティングへの参加に際しては、発表の有無を基準に、以下のいずれかをご選択いただけます:

  1. プレゼンター (Presenter): 発表を行う
  2. アテンディー (Attendee): 発表は行わない

発表を希望される場合は、下記の2種類からお選びください。 

＊本会は知識交流を目的としたインフォーマルな集いであるため、他の学会や出版物で発表済の内容も大歓迎です。いわゆる二重投稿にはあたりません。

発表形態 (プレゼンターのみ)

(1A) PRESENTATION

  • 発表 + 質疑応答 = 35分
  • 従来 ‘Paper Presentation’ と呼ばれる、スライドを使用した発表です。
  • ご自分の研究内容に関して自由に発表してください。
  • 研究発表を想定していますが、それに関連する理論•概念•方法論などに焦点を当てた発表やプロポーザル発表も歓迎します。

(1B) ROUNDTABLE

  • 発表 + 質疑応答 = 25分
  • 被訪問形式での発表: 指定のスペースで待機し、訪問してきた聞き手に発表を行い、質疑応答やディスカッションを行います。  
  • 発表時間が短く流動的かつインタラクティブなため、アイディア出しやフィードバックを目的とした発表 (e.g., プロポーザル発表)、比較的規模の小さい ”ミニスタディ” やパイロット研究のような内容におすすめです。

その他にも、懇親を促進するための交流活動を企画しています。

Purposes and objectives

Applied Linguistics Circle Meetup stems from the organizers’ shared desire to create a space and opportunity for graduate students, researchers, and other participants interested in and/or committed to applied linguistics to exchange scholarly knowledge and nurture collegiality and a sense of community beyond the institutional boundaries. To us, it is important because, due to the 2.5 years of the pandemic, such opportunities have been lost since the inception of our academic journey.

Our hope is to create a collegial and inclusive environment in which each participant is respected as a valued contributor (with their intellectual orientations, unique viewpoints and experiences) and can freely and comfortably exchange ideas and engage in discussion.

*Registration is required for all participants. Please register using the form at the bottom.

Participation Types

Everyone can choose to participate either as:

  1. Presenter (who presents their own work); or
  2. Attendee (who does not present their work)

If you would like to present, you can choose from one of the two presentation formats (see the next section).

*Given the purpose of the meeting, presentations that have already been presented at other conferences or in other publications are also welcome.

Presentation Formats

(1A) PRESENTATION

  • Presentation + Q&A = 35 minutes
  • This is a traditional, lecture-type presentation delivered with PPT slides.
  • Research presentations are desirable; however, presentations focusing on research-related theories, concepts, methodologies, as well as research proposals are also welcome.

(1B) ROUNDTABLE

  • Presentation + Q&A = 25 minutes
  • This is a smaller-scale, more fluid, and interactive presentation format in which the audience visits, listens to, and engages in discussions/Q&As with the presenter.
  • Presentations will be given in a designated space, followed by a Q&A session and discussion.
  • Because of its interactivity and fluidity, this format is more suitable for feedback-seeking presentations, small-scale “mini studies” (e.g., pilot studies), and thesis/dissertation proposals.

Other social activities are also being planned to foster socialization.
