As a critical applied linguist and sociocultural SLA/TESOL researcher, and a former secondary-level EFL teacher in Japan, I have taught across a range of educational contexts. These include the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada; public and private secondary schools in Tokyo and Chiba, Japan; and private supplementary schools (juku = 塾), also in Japan. The map above indicates the location where I have taught.

I currently teach undergraduate courses in the Department of Language Education, Faculty of Education at UBC and in the UBC–Ritsumeikan Academic Exchange Program, working with both current and prospective language educators as well as study abroad students from Japan. I have also served as a teaching assistant and as a materials developer at UBC.
