Overview

The purpose of this event is to create an informal yet intellectually stimulating opportunity and space for graduate students, as well as emerging and seasoned researchers, in- and pre-service teachers, undergraduate students and others engaged or interested in language education, applied linguistics, second language acquisition (SLA), among many other relevant fields, to share their scholarly and professional work and knowledge and nurture a sense of community and collegiality within and beyond institutional and national boundaries.

All participants can choose one of the following form of participation of their choice:

Presenter (who presents their work); or
Attendee (who does not present their work)

Our hope is that this event will contribute to the creation of a collegial and supportive community of practice in which every participant (whether as a presenter or attendee) is respected as a valued contributor and can exchange, develop, and transform their ideas and visions.

Call for Proposals (closed)

Proposal submissions are welcome from any individuals or groups of individuals working in language education, applied linguistics, SLA, as well as other relevant fields. Given the purpose of the event, namely, facilitating intra- and intercollegiate scholarly conversations and knowledge mobilization, the presenters are allowed to present any work of their preference and specialization—whether published, complete, work-in-progress, exploratory, or planned (e.g., a research proposal).

Proposal Types

We invite for two types of proposals: (a) Presentations and (b) Roundtables:

The “Presentation” option involves a 20-minute presentation, followed by a 10-minute Q&A. This follows the traditional, lecture-style presentation delivered through PPT slides. Work from a complete or ongoing research project is preferable. However, theoretical, conceptual, methodological, or other kinds of presentation (e.g., a research proposal) can be submitted.

The “Roundtable” option involves a 15-minute presentation, followed by a 10-minute more dynamic and interactive Q&A. This is a smaller-scale and more interactive presentation delivered for a smaller audience of shared interests. It is suited for any kind of smaller-scale or feedback-seeking work.

Given the limitation of space, your work may need to be peer-reviewed and adjudicated by the organizers. As a result, you may receive a notification of acceptance, acceptance in a different presentation format, or rejection. The adjudication criteria includes: (a) appropriateness, importance, and relevance of the topic/issue/problem; (b) clearly stated research design / conceptual framework; and (c) organization and clarity of proposal. Priorities may be given to upper-year students, in case of close competition in the final phase of adjudication.

Language

The proposal shall be written and submitted in English or Japanese/日本語. The presentation may be delivered in Japanese or English. Please note the following word limit:

English
Title: 15 words (max; please use sentence case, meaning that the first word and proper nouns are capitalized)
Proposal: 300 words (max)

Japanese/日本語
Title: 22 characters (max)
Proposal: *250 characters (max)

発表要旨募集 (締切済)

言語教育、応用言語学、SLAなどの関連分野で活動する個人またはグループからの発表要旨を受け付けています。本会は知識交流を目的としたものであるため、他の学会や出版物として発表済の内容も大歓迎です。いわゆる二重投稿にはあたりません。

本会の発表形態は「プレゼンテーション」および「ラウンドテーブル」の計二種類です

「プレゼンテーション形式」は、発表スライドを用いて全参加者を対象に行う発表形式です。完了済あるいは進行中の研究に関する発表を想定していますが、関連する理論・概念・方法論などに焦点を当てた発表やプロポーザル発表も歓迎します。[発表20分、質疑応答10分]

「ラウンドテーブル形式」は小規模かつ活発で双方向的な知識交換促進を目指す発表形式です。発表者は指定のスペースで待機し、訪問者を対象に発表を行い、その後質疑応答やディスカッションを行います。発表時間が短く流動的かつインタラクティブなため、アイディア出しやフィードバックを目的とした発表 (e.g., プロポーザル発表)、比較的規模の小さい ”ミニスタディ” やパイロット研究のような内容におすすめです。[発表15分、質疑応答10分]

発表枠の都合上、提出された研究は主催者によるピアレビューと審査を経る場合があります。またその結果、受理通知、異なる発表形式での受理通知、または不採択通知を受け取ることがあります。審査基準には以下が含まれます: (a) テーマ/問題の適切さ、重要性、および関連性; (b) 明確に示された研究デザイン/概念的枠組み; (c) 文章構成および明瞭さ。審査の最終段階において結果が拮抗した場合、大学院在籍者 (特に在籍年長者) が優先されることがあります。

発表プロポーザルは英語または日本語で作成・提出してください。発表は日本語または英語で行うことができます。以下の文字数制限をご確認ください：
